Smartcar, the leading API platform for vehicle data integrations, today announced an agreement with BMW to support the secure, scalable rollout of BMW’s new Charging API across Europe. This collaboration empowers Smart Energy providers to build innovative smart charging solutions while ensuring that BMW drivers benefit from the highest standards of safety, privacy, and control.
As part of BMW’s ongoing commitment to driver security and data protection, new safety standards for remote vehicle charging will come into effect this September. BMW recently notified drivers:
“In the future, this [remote charging] will only be possible in certain countries with a compatible electricity provider. This will increase the level of security and protect your data and your vehicle even better.” To support this transition and enable trusted access for energy providers, BMW is working with Smartcar as a scaled partner to help deliver developer-friendly, privacy-first integration across the smart energy ecosystem.
Through this partnership, Smartcar will offer standardized, secure access to BMW’s EV charging APIs through their platform. Developers and energy companies will be able to deliver tailored, reliable services from time-of-use charging and grid optimization to home energy management without having to build and maintain one off integrations.
“We're incredibly proud to support much of the smart energy ecosystem across Europe,” said Sahas Katta, CEO & Founder, Smartcar, “and this collaboration with BMW furthers our mission to unlock the freedom of movement for everyone. Following our fleet API agreement with BMW, this natural expansion into EV charging APIs enables us to serve even more of the EV community with secure and scalable solutions.”
BMW’s Charging API is available to developers in select European markets, with onboarding and integration support provided by Smartcar. Developers interested in accessing the BMW Charging API via Smartcar can learn more at smartcar.com.
